FLEE

Flea market/art fair and performance space…

2pm – 7pm
FREE EVENT

FLEE market is a part of Corsica Studios Summer Programme and will take the format of a flea market, art fair and a performance space where anything is possible. Stalls will include vintage second hand clothing, new designers, illustrators, art stalls and bric a brac.

Featured Exhibition - Ben Harris

In the pop-up gallery for the FLEE Collectives debut show we proudly present an interactive piece by freelance graphic designer ShowmeLove. Ben Harris invites you to be photographed and to participate in his latest photographic piece Family Portrait. Ben is concerned with the notions of time, history and preciousness. Within this piece he is focusing on the transition from how the family portrait from the past was a special, happy and exclusive event to the present day, where he is highlighting the impact of how this ritual act has been eroded through the saturation of such technologies as Facebook. If a family portrait is taken now will people realize where, when or even who is in the photo?
“I wonder what people will feel when sitting in my own memory?”

Eleanor Shipman

This stall resembles a Lower Marsh antique market stall featuring alternative ‘souvenirs’ which she made in workshops with local people.

A percentage of profits from this stall will be donated back to the charities involved in making it.

Molly Barron

Molly is an artist and illustrator based in London. She takes inspiration from anything including art, sex, music, photography, film, fashion and all things creative. Watch out for her work!

Christina Mitrentse,

This minimal stall will hold her emblem collection exhibiting and selling her lingerie collection, prints and paper sculptures.

Geraldine Swayne,

Geraldine is a painter of darkly seductive images that oscillate between real and metaphysical realms, between the imaginary and the deeply familiar. These are coaxed out of paint or ink in a highly charged manner, toying evocatively with materials and subjects without pandering to the illustrative, the obvious or the sentimental.

Marie-Gabrielle Fabre,

Marie-Gabrielle devotes herself to many disciplines including painting, video, installation, sculpture and sound however she has decided to come to you and sell these beautiful, exquisitely hand-made pieces of jewellery.

Benjamin Fox,

“Through thrift and financial ruin, my current work utilises found or recycled materials, and I enjoy the transformative and imaginative processes involved in turning junk and waste into more fantastical objects.”

To accompany FLEE there will also be FLEE Bites and BBQ by BonitaxSarita, including scrumptious punch and tasty tea. Because sugar and spice is always nice!

A R A R I Investigation Three I Leah Elsey & Sonia Uddin I Matt&Ross/Grizedale Arts I Paul Teigh & Martin Russell I What They Could Do, They Did

Together, At The Junction explores the relationship between collaborative art practice, community and public space. The Elephant Rooms invites jottaContemporary to facilitate artist engagement with a space in transition through live performances and site-specific works. The group exhibition will occupy The Elephant Rooms, a new roving art space in the Elephant and Castle Shopping centre founded and supported by Corsica Studios.  The failed relic of a once promising 1960’s architectural structure will be the stage for a series of performances, live sound pieces and art works, in both the exhibition space and in the communal foyer space within the centre.

a r a r sound experiments occupy the gallery space with a live performance at the Private View and then venture into the Shopping centre’s communal space on Saturday the 1st of August at 2pm.  Investigation Three conduct a sound recorded walk within the area at 2.30pm on Saturday the 1st of August.

jottaCONTEMPORARY identifies young and emerging artists who utilise varying discourses and disciplines. By creating an online profile of artwork on jotta.com artists are given a platform for their work to be viewed, discussed and interacted with; encouraging artists to explore diverse projects and new approaches to exhibiting.  jottaContemporary selects artists from within the jotta community, as well as showcasing artists who are still studying, recently graduated and working with young collectives all over London.

‘THE ELEPHANT ROOMS is a new transient art space which will pop-up at different locations throughout The Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre bringing art into vacant shops made available by St. Modwen, regeneration specialist and owners of the iconic building. Having built their reputation by establishing creative platforms in areas of regeneration, these days, Corsica Studios, is more likely to be known for hosting some of the most cutting edge live music in London. The Elephant Rooms will herald a return to their artistic origins providing a dedicated space in the heart of the community for arts and performance. South London has always been home to some of the most vibrant underground tendencies in both art and music. It has produced a succession of noteworthy art collectives and artists who, in the best traditions of DIY, have taken their fate into their own hands and set about finding less styled spaces in which exhibit their work. The Elephant Rooms will create a highly visible everyday context and provide the environment for these groups to converge and engage with new and different audiences.
